Part of a loutrophoros decorated in the red-figure technique which was found in the Sanctuary of the Nymphe.

It depicts two young people, probably the newlyweds, staring at each other eyes. The naked body parts are highlighted with added white colour, while facial features are rendered with diluted yellowish brown clay. The scene most likely captures the first time the couple stares at each other during their wedding day, after the bride revealed her face by removing her veil. The bridegroom is wrapped in his himation and extends his hand towards her, perhaps to hold her from the wrist and lead her to his family home, their new house. This is the typical nuptial gesture that seals the marriage and states the young woman’s guardianship passes from her father to her new husband.
